ETHELENE WHITMIRE: ‘SEARCHING FOR UTOPIA. THE AFRICAN AMERICAN / DANISH ARCHIVES
This visual presentation by researcher Ethelene Whitmire was a part of a series of events at meter arranged by the collective Hvid[mə] Archive whose text-based archive is currently on show as a part of the exhibition Unravelings.
In the presentation: Searching for Utopia. The African American/Danish Archives, Whitmire will present her research documenting the lives of African Americans in Denmark during the 20th century, which will be part of her upcoming book.
Whitmire ́s current archival research project explores the experiences of African Americans who studied, visited, lived and performed in Denmark during the 20th century. Educators, artists, social workers, writers, singers, jazz musicians among many others, were drawn to the Scandinavian countries and Whitmire will visually present their stories and her own encounters of the process in writing her upcoming book.
