I would prefer not to

Aug 19 – Dec 9 2017

KLD Repro re-publishes Bartleby the Scrivener: A story of Wall Street for the exhibition. The short story was first serialized anonymously in two parts in the November and December 1853 issues of Putnam’s Magazine. A Wall Street lawyer hires a new clerk who, after an initial bout of hard work, refuses to make copy and any other task required of him, with the words “I would prefer not to”. The short story is a recurring re-issue by KLD Repro. Each edition differs from the previous in terms of design and postscript – in the case of this edition, with a text contribution by Jakob Jakobsen.
