Johanne Skovbo Lasgaard

Born 1985 in Denmark.
MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

In Johanne Skovbo Lasgaard’s practice she explores how meaning is produced in recognisable materials and objects as they shift between private memories and collective cultural narratives and myths.

Lasgaard’s works can be described as in between the nostalgic, almost kitsch, and esoteric. The works are often imprints or reproductions of things you can buy in Home Depot or that you might find in every household. Accompanying the objects are titles and texts that introduces a more poetic and at times mythological meaning to the work.

Johanne Skovbo Lasgaard’s Ravvandringer is a body of sculptures that will change through adding and subtracting elements, melting and recasting sculptures. The sculptures are casts of the negative space of everyday objects. Their form – both figurative and abstract – place them between the familiar and unknown. They are both-and; either-or.
